Why do you do this? “You’re my brother”

Joan Duggan was co-founder of a very successful company, which she later sold. She then worked in the corporate world for a while, but eventually gave almost all of her money away and founded an EoC-minded tutoring startup in upstate New York, which she helped manage for over 2 decades. She says that we are all part of a big family. From an EoC perspective, because we really are just one big family of humanity, every person I encounter is my brother or sister, and I should love them.

  1. How would it affect business relationships if you always treated all of your customers and employees and bosses and suppliers, etc as your brothers and sisters?
  2. Business traditionally assumes a distant and impersonal relationship to others one engages with. "Keep it professional" is the mantra of business. But how does this idea that 'everyone is my brother' contradict or challenge that assumption of professional objectivity in the marketplace?
