This page explains what this site collects, what it does not, and who else is involved when you use it.

Who publishes this site

This site is published by the Economy of Communion Project. The project is supported by Grant 63593 from the John Templeton Foundation.

What we collect

Very little, and nothing at all until you either accept cookies or send us something.

Reading, searching, and browsing. Before you answer the cookie question, and permanently if you decline, nothing about your visit is recorded beyond the standard server log that every website keeps: the address your browser connected from, which page it asked for, and when. That is held briefly for security and troubleshooting and is not tied to any profile of you.

If you accept cookies. We load Google Analytics, which tells us which pages get read and watched and roughly where visitors came from. It is aggregated and is not used to identify you, and it is the only measurement on this site. There is no advertising, no retargeting, and no social media tracking anywhere on it.

If you decline. No analytics loads, no Google measurement cookies are set, and nothing is sent. Your answer is remembered on your own device for a year so you are not asked again.

The contact form. If you write to us, we receive the name, email address, and message you enter. Submissions are stored on this website and emailed to us so that we can reply.

The newsletter. If you sign up, your email address is added to our list at MailerLite, the service we use to send the newsletter. Every message includes a way to unsubscribe. We also record the internet address a signup came from for about ten minutes, so that automated abuse can be blocked. It is not kept beyond that.

Searching the site

The search runs entirely inside your own browser. What you type is never sent to us or to anyone else, and no record of your searches is kept.

Videos

The interviews are hosted on YouTube and play inside the page. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player, so opening a page with a video on it sends nothing about you to Google. Pressing play does. From that point YouTube may collect information about your viewing under Google’s own privacy policy rather than ours.

Fonts

The site loads its typefaces from Google, which means your browser requests the font files from Google when a page opens.

Cookies

The full list, what each one does, and how long each lasts is on our cookie page.

Who else receives anything

Google, for analytics and only after you accept, and for the fonts and the video player described above. MailerLite, for newsletter addresses. Nobody else. We do not sell, rent, or trade information about you.

How long we keep things

Messages sent through the contact form are kept for an indefinite amount of time and can be deleted upon request. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are rotated within about thirty days. Analytics data is held in our Google Analytics account under its standard retention setting.

Your choices

You can change your mind about cookies at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the footer. Because nothing optional loads until you accept, a browser configured to refuse tracking is respected by default.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in California, that includes the right to know what is collected and to ask that it not be sold or shared, and we do not sell or share personal information. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the same rights apply along with the right to a copy of your data. Write to the address below and we will take care of it.

Children

This site is made for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this page

We will update this page if what the site collects changes, and the date at the top will change with it.
