Cookies

Last updated September 9, 2026

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This page lists the ones this site uses and why.

Your choice comes first

Nothing optional loads until you say so. The first time you visit, a small banner asks whether you accept cookies. Until you answer, and permanently if you decline, no measurement runs and no Google cookies are set. You can change your answer at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the footer.

Cookies that are always set

eoc_cookie_consent. Remembers whether you accepted or declined, so that you are not asked again on every page. Set when you answer. Lasts one year.

A contact form cookie. If you submit the contact form, a cookie records that the submission went through so the page can confirm it. It expires shortly afterwards.

A login cookie. Only for site administrators signing in to update content. Ordinary visitors never receive one.

Cookies set only if you accept

_ga and _ga_458518452. Google Analytics. Anonymous session and page-view measurement. Up to two years, managed by Google.

_gid. Google Analytics. A short-term session identifier. Twenty four hours.

If you decline, none of these are set. If you accept and later change your mind, they are deleted.

Videos

The videos are hosted on YouTube and play inside the page. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player, so opening a page with a video on it does not begin any of this. Pressing play does, and from that point YouTube may store what it needs to run the player. Those are set by Google rather than by us, and are covered by Google’s own privacy policy.

Fonts

The site loads its typefaces from Google. This does not set a cookie, but it does mean your browser makes a request to Google to fetch the font files.

Managing cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies through its settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading or searching this site, though blocking Google’s may affect video playback.

Changes to this page

We will update this page if the cookies used by the site change.
