Hammer or Anvil

Nick Sanna has been CEO of multiple VC-funded startups and is currently President of SAFE Cyber Security, one of the leading cybersecurity firms. Here Nick talks about a challenge one of his father's friends gave him when he was young: "do you want to be an anvil, or the hammer?" His point was that if you get power through business you can make other people do what you want and be in control. This turned Nick off and made him seek for a different approach to practicing business, which eventually led him to the Focolare and then the EoC.

  1. Do you want to be a hammer or an anvil? Or is that not the right question?
  2. How does business often lead to some being hammers and others being anvils?
  3. What can be done to try to eliminate this sort of dichotomy in the business environment? What can leaders do to try to change this approach?
