When I first started doing business the way I do with buying rental properties and fixing them up and all those things, like I was already a Christian and a very committed Christian. That was 1999 and I didn't find out about the EOC until 2015. And I didn't figure out what the folklore was until after that. So I would say my faith is definitely what motivated me to behave the way that I have in business through the years.
And then as I found the EOC, I found some like-minded Christians who thought about business the same way I do because not all Christians who are in business think about business the way the EOC people do. Um, a lot of Christians still think like, I'm here to make money and then I give some to charity, give it to the church, give some over here, whatever. And the EOC is a very different approach. And I always had that different approach.
I just didn't find like-minded people until I found the EOC. So, my faith has very much influenced the way that I think about how I use my money. I think of my money as God's. When people say, "Well, I want to give some of my money to God." I'm like, "All of my money is God's." So, I just have to figure out like, "Where does he want me to use it?" And I misuse it. I spend too much on my steak dinners or on buying a fancy bottle of wine or on buying a drum set for my three-year-old kid, which is stupid.
So, I spend my money in all sorts of stupid ways that I shouldn't. But still in principle I think all that I have is God's and I need to think of it that way as how do I use it for other people's benefit. And so that that part of my faith really does motivate how I think about business and think about money in general.
