Agents of Communion, Francis

Joan Duggan was co-founder of a very successful company, which she later sold. She then worked in the corporate world for a while, but eventually gave almost all of her money away and founded an EoC-minded tutoring startup in upstate New York, which she helped manage for over 2 decades. Here Joan Duggan describes a central aspect of the Economy of Communion-- namely that EoC asks us to be agents of communion-- and she describes what that means. She says that an EoC approach to business calls us to approach every person we encounter with a view that we can be in unity with this person somehow-- even like the Trinity (the Christian concept that Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God the Father are all distinct, but also One at the same time).

  1. Joan notes that being Agents of Communion means finding a way to live with everyone. How does this go against the status quo of our modern business environment?
  2. How does typical business view customers we encounter? How does it view employees or coworkers?
  3. What could someone do to try to live this striving to develop relationship with others in their daily encounters with others inbusiness? Have you ever experienced this?
  4. How might normal relationships differ from those relationships we find in the Holy Trinity?
