Describing Focolare

Karen Joy Dizon is marketing director at Focolare Media, the U.S. publishing and communications arm of the Focolare Movement — home to New City Press and Living City magazine — where she leads marketing for books, periodicals, and digital content on dialogue, unity, and faith in daily life. She is also founder of Salamat Designs LLC, an EoC business.

Here she discusses the Focolare movement and it's contribution to the effort of unity and dialogue in the world. She also talks about how that effort of unity and dialogue are part of the EoC.

  1. Karen says that the Focolare is a lay-movement. What does that mean?
  2. She points out that unity doesn't limit diversity-- it thrives with diversity. Have you seen examples of unity which did not involve uniformity? What was that like?
  3. Unity is at the basis of the Focolare-- it is its core value. Do you agree with Karen that unity doesn't require uniformity, but rather room or space to allow for different perspectives? How do you try to bring about unity with others in that way?
