Not Charity Work

Liz Wallin, a former EoC entrepreneur, founded project LIA, which helped provide work training for formerly incarcerated women in Indianapolis.

In this video, Liz Wallin talks about Project LIA and how it was more than just a charity work organization, but instead a community of people who wanted to work towards change. She shares how rather than donations, she encouraged community with the participants and others outside the program, sharing dinners and hosting events rather than simply donations.

  1. Why might building community with others in an organization create more meaningful change than donating?
  2. In what ways does this model of building community reflect the Economy of Communion values?
  3. How might involving participants in the community impact their sense of dignity?
